Most of our retreats have a theme which we try to explore in a meditative and creative way. Of course in each retreat we have periods of silence and group meditation. However, many retreatants have expressed a desire for a truly quiet retreat. So our Quiet Day will be different from our normal programmes in that eighty per-cent of the day will be completely silent. We shall have our usual four periods of group mediation extended, however, to 40 minutes each. The rest of the day will be quiet time for reflection, solitary walks, lectio-divina (several suitable passages will be made available) plus a Quaker style final gathering together in order to share with each other whatever spiritual insights we may have had. As usual we shall have a splendid vegetarian feast at midday but, again, this should be – as far as possible – enjoyed in silence.
